Have you ever considered a prefab or modular home idea for your Wished For House? Today we will look at a few examples just for fun and to get your thoughts flowing.
The other day while researching sustainable living I came across a few of these modular or prefab homes and was surprised at how many attractive and appealing examples I came across. So I was inspired to look into this a little bit more.
Mind you, this is not to be confused with the manufactured homes that we have been familiar with in the past such as mobile homes. Which is probably not the Wished For House that we’ve been dreaming about. And we’ve clearly come a long way with modular designs since then!
Don’t worry I won’t make this a big long boring “50 of the best prefab homes” list. Collective sigh. But instead more of an inspirational thought provoking view on what’s out there currently in this particular venue. I’ll put links for what I show here and if this peaks your interest you can certainly find much more info out there.
Most of these modular or prefab homes are being billed as either eco friendly, green certified or sustainable healthy living which is certainly something people are looking out for these days.
The above image is a prefab home in what I would call a rustic rural modern style and is from a company aptly named The Go Home. Homes can be customized to fit your needs and they have won awards from Green Building and EcoHome.
You might be wondering what is the difference between, prefab, modular or a kit home.
A prefab home (as shown above) is defined as something made in sections that can be easily shipped and put together to form a finished product. The word is short for “prefabricated” which means made beforehand.
Modular is defined as involving a module as the basis of design or construction. Or as a design principle that subdivides a system into smaller parts.
You can see in the above illustration that there are many modular units put together to create this look. However, this is also prefab as it will be created and shipped ready made to install.
I’m loving the modern natural look of these Blu Homes, which are also Green Smart. I really like this style of architecture as well as the ample use of windows for lighting. However, this is a somewhat expensive option and you would also need to secure some property for this to be built on. So that is a consideration with these types of homes.
Above is a cute and cozy log cabin build created by EcoHouseMart. They are made to order and due to the solid wood build these are definitely a healthy and eco friendly way to go. This model is surprisingly affordable at around $33,000, though you do have other expenses as mentioned before, such as property, hook ups, foundation and landscaping to take into consideration.
To be fair I tend to be more interested in the smaller models and as well the budget friendly. Almost tiny homes but not quite that tiny. However, there is a wide assortment out there as you can see. Ranging from modern, ultra modern, farmhouse, ranch, modular, to shipping container living.
